The Levity Project Players in action

The Levity Project is a movement to create social change through play, laughter, and celebration.

We engage in public acts of levity in which people gather in a flash setting to en-lighten the energy of a public place and those within it.  They are designed to foster a sense of lightness and connection to all who are present.

Our goal is to inspire people to see themselves as agents of change and to help create an upward spiral of positivity in our world.  We want to  create a deeper global understanding that joy, play, laughter, and freedom are integral to our individual and collective success.

How it began:

The idea for The Levity Project came to me (Katie West)  while on a visit to New York City.  I was on the subway  enjoying the day and the time to explore the city.  So as I was listening to my music on my headphones with my eyes closed, I began to smile broadly.   I was not doing anything wild….just showing my feeling of joy.   When I opened my eyes, I saw people staring at me….and FROWNING! I was so confused.

It was if my joy and delight was painful for them to experience.  Something happened at that moment and while I had never considered myself an activist, I realized that by simply being alive we are all activists and all agents of change.

What change do you want to make?

This inspired me to create a series of social experiments that would encourage people to laugh, play and celebrate in public places in order to create a shift in the energy of the place and the people present.

I  knew instantly by the unanimously positive response to the first event of The Levity Project: A Laughter Flash, that this was something our world needed.

My hope is that The Levity Project becomes a worldwide phenomenon inspiring global social change towards lightness, buoyancy, and peace as we find our interconnectedness through joy.

Ina Lukas, our amazing Operations Manager.  She  brings a wealth of knowledge and positive, fabulous energy to the The Levity Project. Without Ina, we could not be doing half of the amazing stuff we are doing!  Yay for Ina!
