The Levity Project: Car Dancing Micro-Movement Is Coming Alive

by Katie on February 16, 2010

Alright Levity Project Players!  The time is now!  Please upload all of your 10-15 second car dancing videos this week!

Please UPLOAD them to You Send It and send them to katie(at)thelevityproject(dot)com.  They are starting to roll in and they are fabulous!

Why are we doing this?  Check out the original post here. This is a part of a new idea by The Levity Project called a Micro-Movement where a “flash mob style” gathering  takes place online. We have this wonderful resource and now, unlike any other time before, we are able to connect with people worldwide for change.  We believe that global change is possible.

And it starts with you and me.

I spent so many years thinking “this or that needs to change” and waited around for someone else to take care of  changing things.  Until, one day fairly recently, when I finally woke up to the idea  that we all truly are agents of change and all we need to do is connect with our OWN authentic way of making change.  Once we allow ourselves to identify with what makes us excited and what we feel passionate about being involved in, we can focus on creating an intentional shift in ourselves and the world around us.

For us, it is The Levity Project.  It is about awakening the energy in public places and filling them with the spirit of joy and inspiration.  (Check out our events page–we may be coming to a city near you.)

In the meantime, we want you to join us here.  And the first micro-movement we are doing is asking for you to go car dancing. Why?  Because people only car dance when they are feeling joyful.  And when we have the guts (yes guts) to go out there at a stop sign or a parking lot or in our driveway and let loose and enjoy the music and dance, we inspire those around us to try something different.   When we do not hide the joy we are feeling within, we inspire others to find and share their own joy.  And we do this by freely giving them a little of ours.

A little story for you all- The first day of my Junior year in high school English Class, my teacher, reputed for his brilliance and eccentricity, implored us to not care what others thought.  We eyed each other sideways with teenage doubt in our eyes. And our teacher  yelled, “Really!”  and proceeded to throw his non-athletic body down on the ground and roll (yes ROLL) all over the classroom floor yelling in gibberish.

We looked on in both bewilderment and awe.  He continued for a few moments.  Then, he stood up and said, “There now.  For the rest of the year none of you can look as foolish as I just did today, so be bold, take chances, and make a difference.”

I have never forgotten that.

Are you being bold?

Are you taking chances?

Are you making a difference?

I ask myself that almost everyday.

Join us and bring more joy to our world by sharing it freely each day.

Choose your own unique way to do it, but challenge yourself to take bold steps towards bringing joy into your life.

And if you are so moved, we would love it if you would car dance as a way of spreading  BOLD JOY  into the world.

And remember people only judge when they wish they could be free enough to be doing what you are doing.

Be bold, take chances, and send in your Car Dancing LEVITY PROJECT video by Saturday February 20th.

Upload them at You Send it and send them to katie(at) thelevityproject(dot) com.  Unedited.  10-20 seconds long.

Thank you for joining with others to spread mirth, mischief, and merriment.  I promise you, it will keep us all young.

Rock on,

Katie

(PS And yes, I have been on quite a little soapbox bender lately about how we are the change…..thanks for indulging me)

Katie,
I’m in!!

In fact, I’ve been doing this off and on (maybe I should make it more of the “on”!!) for the last couple of weeks. And you know what I have noticed. So, I was behind this big truck at a stoplight. And I was in a rush. And I started to get grumpy…just sitting there, thinking I was behind this big slow truck. And then I decided to car dance. And this is what I realized: I cannot car dance and be grumpy at the same time. Can’t do it! How cool is that, anyway! It’s like this cure for grumpiness, or being mad, or irritated. I just felt “good”. And you know what else…in the end, it didn’t matter anyway that it took an extra minute to get wherever it was that seemed “so” important at the time.

And – very cool high school teacher you had! (even though you may not have thought that at the time he was rolling around the floor)

Rock on!!! (life IS fun!!!)

Brilliant! We can all make a difference, and have fun doing it. “Change” doesn’t have to be hard. Spreading JOY throughout the world SHOULD BE FUN!

This is fun, and I’m so “in” like Flynn, Katie. I’ve enlisted my brother’s help this weekend (he has the video machine thingy that will record all our mad dancing moves).

You inspire!

I’m doing mine this Saturday. I’ll send it as soon as it’s done. I’m looking forward to rocking my butt out to a good tune. Haven’t picked mine out yet, but I know it will be good.
