“If it is not happening, it is because you are not doing it.”
Thomas Friedman, The World is Flat
I read the above line this past weekend….and can not stop thinking about its truth and its challenge. There is something about this one line call to action that dismisses any excuses I might make as to why something can’t be done or why I can’t do it.
Each one of us can create positive change in the world by creating a single ripple in a single moment which has the potential to go out from us and create larger and larger waves. We can each make a difference. When I saw the following video, I jumped up and said, “YES! This is what I am talking about!” We are all agents of change. It is about harnessing our own strength or gift and taking action no matter how small.
You can do it. I can do it. Today, let’s all find a way to make even this much of a difference.
And then there is that question that I keep asking myself:
What do you want to see happening, that you aren’t yet doing?
If you read my last blog on car dancing, you know that The Levity Project is very interested in getting you to join us in the idea of micro-movements-Actions that we each take on our own that when put together via video and shared online-they become a force of their own. With that said, we would LOVE IT if you upload your 10-15 second “car dancing” videos via .io-a file sharing service ! Ina and I will be compiling them and putting out a video with your participation in this month’s event with The Levity Project. Thank you!

What a fantastic quote to start the day with! Thanks for the smile.
Katie, it’s 6am and I’ve been reading through my blogging list for about 90 minutes and came across your site via Happy Lotus. I just wanted to say this post hit me between the eyes. You know that feeling you get when you have a sudden realization, that’s the feeling I got when I read this. Thank you.
Simply beautiful! I love getting your messages. They make me think at the most basic level, where everything begins. Thank you!
I laughed and cried at the same time about Johnny and his Thought Of The Day!
From the heart, that’s where it’s gotta come from, no matter what we do. Ahhhh, what a beautiful inspiration, thanks.
xo
The ongoing message I have for myself is to simply Be. It is important to me that I walk my talk as much as possible and that I am congruent and in inner alignment to who I really am. In situations when I have not been, I experience a disconnect. Change is a constant thing with me. So hopefully by simply BEing, I can inspire others to make positive changes in their own lives.
That’s just fantastic, Katie; I’ve already sent a link to two people I know who would really enjoy seeing that video. Thank you for posting it!
Little actions performed with heart produce HUGE results. And as you said to me the other day (which I wrote down), we don’t live linear lives. So small actions producing HUGE results is not only possible, it’s expected!
Act away! I’m going to. Oh, and actually (this just popped into my head) a friend who lives on the west coast sent me – out of the blue – a card & awesome little trinket last week. When I opened it I thought, “Wow, she’s so much fun!” I wrote to thank and tell her that, and she responded, “I am fun! And that’s why I do those things – to spread fun.” It was a little gesture, that imprinted me with the value I spoke of before: small produces big.
Awesome!
Within all of us is the capacity to make a change. Though we cannot change what life has bestowed upon us, we can definitely change our approach in dealing with it. We can always make a big difference, only if we chose to act to that end.
@Matt: Thanks for visiting! I have been thinking about this quote so much too…may we all help add the change we most want to see!
@Steven As long as hitting you between the eyes is a good thing-Yay! It did the same for me and has helped to influence a couple decisions lately. Something I might have deliberated over became clear when measured in this way. Thank you so much for clicking over.
@Paula That made me smile. Thank you. It is my goal with this blog and The Levity Project in general-to be simple and elemental. Connecting us with the essence of life…thanks for the gift of your comment.
@Jannie I know. Johnny rocks. And Johnny makes me want to get off my duff and DO SOMETHING. Even if that something is about just being “me” more authentically. You do this brilliantly and inspire us all.
@Evelyn I absolutely agree that it is about BEing. And that is a great point you bring up (of course!) I feel that when I am able to connect with my truest and deepest “Me” or being, any action that comes as a result is a true demonstration of my heart’s intention. Doing is only of value when we are first connected to the BEing. You and your writing so clearly reminds us of this and the value of connection with ourselves and oneness.
Yes! We are agents of chance. Each and every day we have a chance to influence others to be happier. If we don’t take this opportunity. We are losing out on a vital need. This need to connect with others, laugh, and enjoy where we are.
Too many times we get caught up in what we don’t have and forget how much beauty there already is. Life is an amazing journey and I want to thank you, Katie, for reminding me to find a way to connect with everyone I meet in a positive way.
Hi Katie,
Absolutely beautiful! Seeing this video confirmed to me an idea that has been hatching in my soul. Thank you so much for posting this video.
It proves we each have the power to make a difference.
Can you imagine what a better place this world would be if everyone would just make one ripple…it would cause a tidal wave of improvement!
