Katie and Ina
As many of you know, The Levity Project kicked off our upcoming National Tour for 2010 in Chicago. It was a gorgeous day with fabulous people who came from
The Levity Project Bus
all over to help us create social change through laughing, playing and celebrating in public places.
Below is one of the videos from our trip out there. Please spread the word and let us know if you want The Levity Project to come to you in 2010! Please Register under Upcoming Events.
The Levity Project is a social movement creating change through laughter, play, and celebration with the goal of creating a lighter and more buoyant society.
Here is what Cheryl Oliver, a participant who joined us in Chicago, had to say about her experience:
“I’m and engineer and can be very serious when I need to be. I’ve learned how to follow the rules of “proper behavior”, but I’ve also found that my life has become VERY boring and that laughter is really the best way to get out of your head and into the freedom of just being who you are. What I’ve been doing since the Levity Project is just smiling at people I don’t know and trying to make eye contact to see if they’ll smile back and say “hi”. I drove through a construction zone today and smiled and waved at the flag holders and their faces went from complete boredom to smiling and waving back. When I walked through Chicago on Sunday I also smiled and said hi and made small talk with people. I feel like my “mission” is to just add a little happiness to my day by helping others be happy too. The Levity Project has given me some great memories and more confidence to do that. Thank you Katie and Ina for doing all of this!!”
Cheers to the ripple effect of laughter and joy that we all have the power to create alone and together.

Hi Katie. I think you meant to put 2009 in the first paragraph.
I love that you are calling this a laughter tour. It has such a great ring to it. Please let me know when the tour comes to Austin. I would love to join in. I can always help create one in Austin too. I submitted a request in your Upcoming Events form.
Laugh well and enjoy the heck out of life.
Laughter rocks!
…and rolls (down the street on a double-decker bus!!)
Woohoo!!
Katie, it was so great to be a part of this and to experience these moments of laughter and levity in Chicago with you! And the video is super-great! Those scenes from under the bean really show the power of laughter, and how it brought everyone who was there together – those of us there for the laughter flash AND those who just happened to be visiting at that moment. And by just the look on people’s faces, this brought at least a moment of lightness and joy to their day…and probably well beyond that moment. And that’s where I see the real beauty of this – in allowing people to feel “okay” in joy (whatever joy means to them).
So Katie…your vision is grand and amazing and beautiful! And it’s breaking down barriers…barriers that keep people from fully living their lives. And that is greatness…
…and…you’re making me get all emotional here. Katie, thank you. For being you. For loving life. For bravely shining your awesome onto the world, and onto me…
Karl: Yahoo, it would be tres fun to laugh with you..and have had a bunch of requests from Austin. That is cool! I edited the fist line so it made more sense…thanks!
Lance: Oohhh Lance. How cool was it to meet in Chicago?! And how amazing would it be if The Levity Project became a place where virtual blogging friendships met in real life and had lunch like we did with Kim of Escape Adulthood and Stacey of Create a Balance (and with Ina too!) That would be amazing. May The Levity Project not only create change but also unity and togetherness while laughing!!!!
Thanks for the lift Katie. I’ve watched your videos before but this morning I got a delightful tingling in my legs. That’s my signal to move forward with my plans and thanks to you I will be sure they are blessed with lightness and laughter.
Katie, this video turned out SO cool! You must be so proud. You’re doing such great work and I definitely think the Levity Project is going to be HUGE. (or at least huger than it is now
P.S. Who is that hot blonde chick in the red shirt? I’ve got to meet her…
Glad to finally see the video! Looks like a blast with that crazy big bean mirror. I spotted a typo – Cheryl’s quote says, “and engineer” instead of “an.” Keep spreading the laughter and light!
I got chills watching that video (and it’s not because it’s only 10 degrees outside). Awesome work, Katie; thanks for doing what you do!
Wow, you were a LOT of people.
I think you should come to my city because I am here.
Will that work for a reason??
@Tom mmmm YOUR comment made me tingle! Thank you for watching and even more Tom for being exactly who you are and empowering others to do the same. You are changing the world.
@Jason Thanks! I know! Doesn’t Kim just make the video?! It was a joy to have her there and thank you, I hope HUGENESS for this dream too.
@Amanda Thanks for the keen eye. And look forward to our next event together!
@Megan Thank you. It means so much to me that it speaks to people. I truly believe that if we can all laugh more and even come together to do it, the world will be a different place.
@Jannie Yes. Most definitely for you that works…well you and blue bunny. Austin is being mulled over for you and Karl and a couple other Austinites who have contacted us!
I’m thinking of our talk – that we can add more fuel to the anxiety, fear, anger that’s out there by being anxious, fearful and angry about it. But no! Not Katie – you’re going to put laughter, joy and celebration out there instead! Then, we’ll see what that does to the mix. I already know – HEALING! You’re doing it, Katie. Thank you. And I want to be in on one of the tours….!
This is outstanding Katie what you are doing! I always love watching these videos, as even though as I was not or can’t be there in person, I relive the experience with these videos on some whatever small scale and they make me laugh!
Keep spreading the joy Katie! It takes an amazing person to get people out of their shells and into the world of joy and laughter and you are doing an amazing job!
Wow…great video! You guys are simply amazing! Will you be thinking of making an international tour one day? Keep smiling & laughing!
@Susanna YES! You are so right. We each have the choice to divide or unify. I believe that “The Man” is an idea we create to stop ourselves from living fully or taking ownership of what can be. And you too Susanna. A shining star, a bright beacon you are for all us of travelers.
@evita Thank you for watching! And it takes AMAZING people to be willing to leave their shells behind to bring a sense of light-heartedness to a public place. I hope to keep connecting wonderful people to create this change towards a lighter world.
@Evelyn Always so nice to have you visit. Absolutely, an international tour is in the future…and then we will get to have that cup of tea and laughter together. hugs to you.
This makes me teary with smiles every time I watch it.
That is an awesome video!!! Congratulations. When are you coming to Boston…it’s not far and lord knows Bostonians can be a wee bit uptight! You must be so proud!!!
Katie–
What a beautiful piece– I was so sorry to not be there with you, but now I feel like I was (a little bit!). As you know, I would LOVE to make it happen in Providence ASAP, however depending on dates and places, maybe we could make it happen before or after Dr. K’s visit? When will I see you to plot and plan? Anyway, I will share the video widely– very good, yea!
Much love and laughter and light–
Rebecca
Wow, I loved this video, I was laughing and laughing myself. I hope you come to Atlanta some day. Thanks for spreading the joy and laughter!
I was kind of kidding, for summer anyway. Austin is soooooo freaking hot from mid-May to mid-October.
But Katie — I would love to come wherever you have the next “laugh-off,” and I’m so glad to know you and be a part of this amazing wonderful super-super super verklempting whole idea of a levity project.
And God, I’m hungry. Late for breakfast!
xoxo
