So in the midst of Broken Leg:09 as I have affectionately come to know the next 4 weeks (count them only 4 more!), I found this beautiful video about dancing. It is inspiring!
One definition of dance is:
“to move one’s feet or body, or both, rhythmically in a pattern of steps, esp. to the accompaniment of music”.
And while I LOVE dancing, the thought of moving rhythmically seems unlikely at this moment-though a good crutch dance might be in order soon…there was another definition that really spoke to me.
Dance–”To appear to flash or twinkle.”
Yep, this one we can all do! We all have the power within us to choose to find the joy, the shining part of each day, and the twinkle within us that makes us unique no matter what. The first step is making a commitment to ourselves that we want to feel this power and this beauty in our lives. This can be challenging to do in the face of the odds, but as we allow our desire for the twinkling to grow, we begin to open ourselves up to the treasure that each day is holding for us. We start to approach each day with a sense of wonder, as a child does.
In what way is your life asking you to “dance” or “twinkle” today?

I like the line in the video that says, “Dance to express, not to impress.” This offers encouragement to countless white boys (including myself.)
It’s the deeper meaning here that I keep coming back to – more than physically dancing – maybe along the lines of “soul” dancing…it’s like touching that place of bliss and everything flashes and twinkles! That’s a sweet dance…and life’s our dance floor…it’s up to us whether we sit out on the sidelines, or get out there and dance. I choose to dance…
Wow, watching that video made me even more aware of how my body simply does not move rhythmically (but I think that’s alright; it does other things really well). I think my life might be asking me to twinkle more in the area of caring less what others think and just having FUN! My friend told me the other day, “Fun is fun, isn’t it?!” Yes, he’s right, and yet I spend more time saying I want to have fun than actually seeking out ways or chances to do it. I’m a sidelines kind of girl — that’s what my DNA has dictated until now, but by golly, I’d like to change that! I’d like to get out there and be silly, have more fun and be part of what or who is MAKING the fun.
Thanks, Katie! What a great message & video you shared.
That is so beautiful Katie!
What way is my life asking me to dance and twinkle…good question. I think at this point being on the computer all day, it is just asking me to move and stretch…feel all my body parts again come to life
Wishing you a speedy recovery
He reminds me of how I dance. Yeah right!
I love to dance and I’ve stopped caring what other people say. The funny thing is when I stopped caring they stopped commenting. Now I just listen to the music and let my body do the rest.
Thanks for a great video!
I dance, therefore I am.
And when I’m say, in a Funsterment Board meeting and have to contain myself with some reasonable modicum of comportment, (yes, the board is a little fuddy-duddie-ish,) I wiggle my butt a little and no one even knows. hee hee.
